I'll leave AU out of the discussion since we are still at Version 1 of NIL while other schools have moved on to Version 12.5B.
How are the larger schools managing payroll and pay structure in the new NIL world with players? Does the head coach at these schools decide how much each player/position group is paid, or is there a GM of sorts who works with the coach to decide this? Likely depends on the autonomy of each coach I guess?
That's my concern with our AD hire and our head coach hire. The AD will absolutely have to be a true leader who the boosters can get behind. He has to understand the importance of NIL and have a full understanding of how it works, how it needs to improve, and manage the overall structure of AUs NIL plan along with the head coaches (Football Coach, Bruce, Butch, etc.).
The Football coach likewise will need to be a great salesman to both our boosters and recruits (something I think Harsin sucks at). The football coach will need to know how to utilize NIL in recruiting, know how to structure his roster along with NIL, etc. The new head coach needs to be a very good CEO and manager of the entire program. I do not want to see another coach who is simply a offensive system coach. The coach needs to be flexible and adaptable to what currently works in modern day football (Gus and Harsin both sucked at this).
