The Wilkerson's lost their 4 year old daughter to the flu this past weekend. It was obviously extremely unexpected. I didn't know her father, Kevin, really closely, but worked with him on a number of cases over the past couple of years (he is, like myself, a young lawyer in the Mobile/Baldwin area) and he was always friendly and good to work with. Just a really nice guy who I've never heard a negative word about. He's also an Auburn grad, for whatever that is worth (I know those kinds of things don't really matter in the grand scheme, but I thought it was worth noting). The last time I saw him in court, I distinctly remember him talking briefly, but glowingly about his little girl. It's just heartbreaking and crushing to even consider, so I can't imagine what he and his family are going through. Their younger one, a baby boy, actually tested positive for the flu shortly after his sister passed, which was just added to the horrible stress and sadness.
Someone set up a GoFundMe for the family. No one plans to have to bury their child, and I'm sure there are significant expenses related to that. So donate if you want, but regardless please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
