First day of spring practice for Auburn football. We got to view practice for a little bit, we'll also talk with Bryan Harsin around 6:30 CT and have notes and stories from that. @BryanMatthews should have more notes and some videos here in a little bit:
-Colby Wooden and Marcus Harris were the clear leaders along the interior defensive lineman
-Jayson Jones looked like an absolute animal. He bullied (I think) Marquis Burks in a drill pretty badly
-Cam Riley and Joko Willis both listed as LB, but got a little work over at EDGE
-Marquise Gilbert looks MASSIVE at safety. He's already pretty big, but looks even bigger in person
-In the secondary, it was clearly Jaylin Simpson and Nehemiah Pritchett as the top 2 DBs. Those two looked close and were chatting a lot. With Roger McCreary gone it's probably those two + DJ James as the replacement
-Brenden Coffey looked extremely strong. Heard he's been killing it in the weight room and he backed that up today in drills
-Jay Fair looked a lot bigger in cleats and a helmet. Routes were crisp out of him, but he also dropped one kinda-tough-to-catch pass
-Shedrick Jackson is a clear leader in the WR room. Gave vocal encouragement to the younger WRs, and helped them through drills as well.
NOTES FROM @BrianStultz:
- As expected, TJ Finley was taking the first reps at quarterback. Demetrius Davis followed him while Robby Ashford, Holden Geriner, Zach Calzada and Trey Lindsey followed
- Tank and Jarquez were first two running backs. Sean Jackson followed.
- In one passing drill we say, Micah Riley-Ducker was only one to drop an easy pass. Finley and Geriner’s arms looked strong. Davis still a bit off.
- Offensive line did drills on pass blocking for a good 5 minutes. No one really stood out.
- Landen King has officially been listed as a TE
