We saw 20 minutes of practice today after it was changed from the morning to the afternoon due to rain. Here are some observations:
- Jarquez Hunter was still not at practice. Caleb Wooden was also not at practice.
- It's clear that Payton Thorne and Holden Geriner throw the best ball. Robby Ashford is still struggling with accuracy and looked disappointed with himself. Freeze has talked about how he will look closely at how the quarterbacks react when they struggle.
- Hank Brown threw some pretty passes, one that Jyaire Shorter made a great catch on.
- Nick Mardner made a good adjustment on a deep throw, coming up with the ball.
- The defensive coaches were vocal while the defense was stretching. Josh Aldridge was yelling to "punch it out" while Jeremy Garrett was yelling "I'm going to coach my ass off today."
- The quarterbacks worked with the centers on shotgun snaps while also working with running backs on play action and run-pass option. Avery Jones was snapping to Thorne.
- Thorne was sort of leading the group of QBs, especially when it came to snap counts.
- Offensive line group was same from yesterday but it seemed like they were interchanging quarterbacks and receivers more consistently.
- Thorne connection to Camden brown looked good, especially on a corner route where Brown caught it and toe-tapped to keep his feet in for the touchdown.
- Caleb Burton was playing in the slot as expected.
- Colton Hood on the hoof. He has good length for his listed 5'11 size. He was mirroring Nehemiah Pritchett during defensive drills.
- JC Hart was working with defensive backs for the second straight day.
- Austin Keys was wearing a new number (6) instead of 12.
- Jayson Jones, Elijah McAllister and Austin Keys looked massive.
- The depth chart on defense was basically the same as yesterday.
