I have come to the conclusion that this fAUmbly is essentially on the same page in terms of what needs to happen. The question/concern is will it ultimately happen and does a disaster like NMSU signal a bigger issue.
For what needs to happen... that is pretty simple. Talent Acquisition! Period.
We must add as many talented high school players as possible. We must supplement the roster with better players from the portal.
The bigger concern is WINNING. I think most agree that 6-6 or 7-5 doesn't matter as long as you do WHAT IS NEEDED above. However, losing to one of the historically worst G5 teams raised the question is there a bigger concern that we know how to WIN games and can HEW win consistently enough games to take the program to the next level. In the words of Al Davis, "just win, baby". Apparently that message wasn't delivered to the team on Saturday. What we saw was a giant middle finger and Diego Pavia drop his nuts all over our beloved Tigers. Nobody stopped him.
So what happens next.... pretty simple answer here... Hugh needs a win on Saturday. Win on Saturday doesn't necessarily mean beating the scandal plagued university of alabama... but something that we can feel good about in regards to hope. Cam Coleman come on down. Ryan Williams come on down. Fight from the team. Fire from the coach. Maybe some firings too.
IF Hugh thinks that he needs to recruit his ass off, Im willing to give him the room in year 1 and year 2 to operate, but what he can't do is let nuts get dropped on our faces again.... especially in JHS.
Results matter. Messaging matters. Finish this season off with success either on or off the field... or both... but find that success.
