Nothing shocking. Of course he's going to compliment it. That said, I really do think Bruce DOES care about the conference becoming stronger and being more highly regarded. From his perspective, the better the conference is and is viewed, the better chance he has to get Auburn into the tournament, and maybe even with a good seed eventually.
And I completely believe Bruce when he says he wishes Anthony Grant was still there. Would've been so easy to recruit against him. Avery will be tougher, but nothing for Bruce to be too worried about.
