This afternoon I was driving along I-759 near Gadsden. I'm not very familiar with the area but I know the Coosa River is basically a lake alongside the interstate. Looking up, I noticed a very large white bird overhead, I immediately saw two more behind it. At first I thought it may have been a heron but those are slender and mostly solitary. As the three birds were coming toward me, I got a good look at them. I'll be damned if they weren't pelicans. White pelicans to be exact. They were fairly massive. It blew me away, I've never seen shore birds that far north. Has anyone witnessed this before? I know what I saw, and they were definitely pelicans, not geese nor swan, nor any type of duck. After doing a little research, I see that they do migrate northward in warmer weather.
