The Ballad of Buster Scruggs....Coen Bros latest from Netflix. A literary-theatrical Western...it's 5-6 diff stories with nothing connecting them, other than maybe the harshness of the old West and human nature at that time...? The first 2 are great (and I got my hopes up) with Tim Blake Nelson & James Franco...the next 3 or 4 are painfully slow (Liam Neeson, Tom Waites, Bill Heck). I direct thru the same co as the Coens, so I better stop now or the Xmas party may suk for me
22 July...powerful film from Paul Greengrass (United 93, Captain Phillips, Jason Bourne, Bourne Ultimatum, etc) about the Norway's deadliest terror attack, killing 77 and wounding over 200...I love this dirs shooting style, using multiple handheld cams with zoom lenses, which feels spontaneous and immediate. The first 30 mins are GRIPPING, wow, unbelievable how this one guy pulled this off. The next 1 hr is about how Norway puts the pieces back together legally and one of the teens puts his life back together...gets kinda dull, but the opening 30 mins is DAMN.
