I currently live in Denver but an opportunity has come up for me to go work in San Fran. While the job pays more the cost of living is such that I calculate that I would lose up to 60k in potential savings over the next three years. Keep in mind that I would still be saving approx 20% of my gross income over this time period, just less than if I stayed put. New job would up my profile in my industry for sure but unless I transfer out to another office my quality of life would likely never be better than what I enjoy in Denver now. What say ye bunker, play it safe and stay put or make the move to the big city and hope it works out in the long term?
