I hobbled into Mayo hoping for clarity not expecting a cure to my neurological issues that have limited my ability to walk since walking out of the Rose Bowl in 2014. I spent over a week in the hospital, months in rehab, took a bazillion medicines, and made dozens of office visits.

Mayo couldn't explain how I got there, why I have acute painful events and can't promise that it won't happen again. But they have seen folks like me and they could teach my brain to walk again. It took 1 PT session of slow exaggerated walking movements and mirrors to help my brain realize I could still walk. It had nothing to do with strength, flexibility, and balance that had been the focus for so long.

Yesterday I walked out of the Mayo clinic without so much as a limp equipped to "reboot" my brain if the neurological issues return.

This wasn't in my wildest dreams.
