If not, have you ever been close to a legitimate physical altercation on the golf course?
Had a strange situation happen yesterday and I can't determine if I just ran into a group of assholes or if it was my group that was the assholes.
Backstory, my playing partner and I got together at the local country club yesterday. We had a 7:50 tee time, but only intended to play 9 holes. The clubhouse asks us to go off on 10. We are both walking with pushcarts. We are both average golfers.. not bad but not great. Something like 20 handicap average for both.
We get to the 17th tee box and I can see a group of 4 coming up the 16th fairway. I was a bit surprised because we hadn't seen anybody behind us the entire morning but other than that I don't think much about it. We both hit into the fairway on 17. We both land short of the green. I chip on and my partner thins one over the green. As he is walking to his ball, I dropped a ball out of my pocket and just slap it up to flag for just fun. We both finish the hole in two putts.
As we are heading off the green, the group behind us is now in the fairway on 17. They are yelling at us for playing extra balls and not following "golf etiquette". My playing partner is a quick temper guy and says something to the group about "come play with his balls"... yada yada yada.. some golf course gangsta from that group is now threatening to fight us over this. It was quite hilarious.. but I found it incredibly strange as well.
We finished #18 at exactly 9:50. So two hours to play 9 holes walking at what I would describe as a leisurely pace... maybe not prompt. I use the word leisurely because we never felt hurried.
