Saw @wgbp’s thread talking about ants being bad this year and made me think about all the black bears that are out and about in numbers I’ve never seen before up in Ellijay, GA. My wife’s parents have had two or three families of bears come by their house/property to scavenge for food as well as several other individual bears, sometimes they’ll come by in broad daylight. Old timers in the apple orchard business up there say that restless bears and ants that are very active and march in straight lines in the summer signals a bitterly cold winter ahead. I’ve observed both this year, and we haven’t had a truly cold winter in four or five years, only a few cold snaps.
