Defense - The defensive front seven is mostly a bunch of 3 and low 4 star guys. Hard workers but average. The DBs are mostly young guys with plenty of talent but not there yet. Durkin is smartly scheming to avoid big plays. It’s hard to watch, but he’s getting the most out of an average defense.
Offense - The offense is moving the ball well, but ruining it with turnovers. PT has thrown 39 picks in his career. He just throws a lot of picks. Even with the picks, PT is having by far his best year in terms of rating (159.9). HB is even higher (173.6) than PT in terms of rating, both are very high. The offense is steamrolling people – other than the crazy number of turnovers. Need to go with Hank again this week, PT played better off the bench anyway.
Fumbles - Lotta fumbles by players who shouldn’t be making them, the combination of Hunter, Alston, and Keionte have fumbled 8 times this season. Completely out of character by veteran players.
Picks – PT doesn’t seem to see the field well. HB actually just sailed a ball, and forced 2 balls. Arky was unbelievably lucky with how the balls went right to them. Coleman has tipped 3 balls up, 2 have been picks.
A few rando notes:
Thorne runs out of bounds way before he has to. We’ve had drives end because he runs out of bounds 2 yards shy of the FD. He seems to have low field awareness a lot of times.
The Austin Keys late hit vs Arky was not really fair to Keys - The QB was throwing the ball as he went out. Completely different from a QB going out of bounds to avoid contact. Is Keys supposed to stop and just let him have a free pass? It was a little late and he did push him a little, but a 6-6 230 QB throwing the ball on the run is a legit target. The QB ran into some guy on the sideline and that made it look much worse, but it was the 6-6 QB running full speed, not the shove, that caused the collision. Standard SEC reffing against us, though.
2-2 is awful, but the team is on the right trajectory if they clean up the TOs. The best players are the FR/SOs. The 2025 and 2026 classes are going to be fantastic, and the team should continue to improve drastically over the next 2 years.
Interested to hear other people's thoughts after the first third is in the books.
