texas a&m was #19 in defensive EPA metrics and expecially good in rush defense for 2023. most people attribute that to star power/all the money that jimbo and crew put into the roster
but the overlooked players of that team arent really that high on internet lists
edgerrin cooper was 4star junior outside the top 150. previous pff before durkin = 66.7 improved to 90.8 (nfl pro potential) once durkin came in. mostly played at will. was the #3 LB in the country on pff. insane improvement. 66.7 was outside the top 300 for reference. earned AP-all american status and now hes projected to go in the first two rounds of the NFL. Kiper has him as the #1 off ball linebacker in the class
but the more impressive player IMO was taurean york
freshman 3star linebacker out of texas played very well last season. 72.0 on pff playing the MIKE. most tamu sites saying he was one of the vocal guys on the field. posted a 72.0 on the season as a FRESHMAN in a vocal role is just impressive to me (closest LB we had to that was austin keys at 74.4). was on PFF's all-freshman team and was named to the ALL-SEC freshman team.
if we do end up with durkin, seems like our linebacker room will love this addition. gonna go back to looking at durkin stuff to fix my depth chart spreadsheet
