No harm no foul. At least the SEC Commissioner acknowledges there should have been a penalty. No punishment for Kirby - required to eat 2 ice cream cones.

Kirby "had no bad intentions or ill-will."

Kirby Smart delivers shove heard 'round the world

Kirby Smart made some unwanted headlines this week after he made contact with — and shoved — Mississippi State quarterback Michael Van Buren on Saturday. Smart has since addressed the incident and said he was trying to get the attention of Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann when he made contact with Van Buren on the sideline. He said he called Van Buren and Mississippi State coach Jeff Lebby as well and said he had no bad “intentions or ill-will” with his actions.

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey also released a statement on Monday regarding the incident. Sankey acknowledged that Smart should have been penalized by SEC officials working the game, but that no further punishment would be handed down by the league office.

“I am confident the contact was not intentional and the clear expectation is this conduct will not happen again,” Sankey’s statement read in-part. Georgia will go on the road to face Texas in Week 8.
