Joe Schmidt, just deceased, was a super tough lb for the Lions in the 60's. He and Mike Ditka ,who was THE Bears te ,met in a memorable matchup. Ditka grew increasingly frustrated as Schmidt was knocking him down and he couldn't run routes, Ditka came back to huddle (where the plays were called in those days) and requested a sweep to his side. He met Schmict with a crushing block that was heard throughout the stadium. As one observer said: "He put Schmidt in the nickel seats." Ditka didn't have any more problems running his routes.
