My theory on our overall poor play since the 2nd half of the ul game is so simple it might be right.
Since our real talent is limited, especially on defense, my theory is that we don't have enough SEC caliber players at each position to have a competitive spirit during practices. This lack of competition breeds lackadaisical performances on Saturdays. This is one of the few scenarios that explains why our entire team has looked sub-par since half time of the ul game. Basically the starters have secured their spots and the "2nd" team aren't good enough to beat them out. If we were deep then we could have real competition during practice with players moving up the depth chart when they perform. The other scenario, dare I even say it, is that the coaches just aren't doing the job that needs to be done. I would never had said that until I saw 3 things during the lsu game: 1. Muschamp was not mad, he even looked a little bewildered, during the game. 2. Our D line got pushed around handily. 3. Ford intentionally avoided tackling Fournette that one play that was highlighted on TV.
Ford, one of the players most of us has been giving props to just plainly dogged it on that play. I would hope that Mus would pull has arse out of the game or not let him play the next game. These boys have talent, they were highly sought after by many other major programs, and the reasons behind this sort of play has got to be something to do with what happens in practice, either by the players or by the coaches, or by both. I am reminded of the TV movie where Bahr took his team to college station and pushed their asses so hard most of them quit the team. But the ones that were left really wanted to play. Somehow Auburn needs to get to that point.
