** I think Chad Morris is the clear frontrunner at the moment and I believe the job is his if he wants it. He's the most experienced coach among the ones I currently consider serious candidates for the position. Clemson was 42-11 in four season with him as OC. He recruited Deshaun Watson and coached him as a freshman before taking the head coaching position at SMU. Watson and Clemson went 28-2 the next two seasons including winning the 2016 national championship.
Morris was not as successful as a head coach going 14-22 at SMU (7-5 in 2017) and 4-18 at Arkansas, but both schools were rebuilding. SMU went 5-7 under Sonny Dykes in 2018 and is 10-2 this season.
** I think it's very reasonable to expect Gus Malzahn to hire someone he's coached with, associated with through a former assistant (Dillingham) or close friends with (Morris). It may never get past Morris, but I expect Malzahn to have interest in Kansas OC Brent Dearmon, South Carolina TE coach Bobby Bentley, Georgia RB coach Dell McGee, William & Mary OC Brennan Marion and perhaps even current Auburn WR coach Kodi Burns.
