We spoke with OL coach Jake Thornton, TE coach Ben Aigamaua, WR coach Marcus Davis and RB coach Cadillac Williams today. Here’s a quick update from Thornton…
** Got the communication part figured out on OL, made some good strides last 4-5 days.
** Kam Stutts has had a great camp. Done a great job at RG. First guy mentioned in OG competition.
** Jalil Irvin has also stepped up at RG too and had a good week. Jeremiah Wright and Tate Johnson have both stepped up at other side. Good competition between those two.
** Not a bigger presence in our room of what it means to be an Auburn OL than Kam Stutts. So proud of how he’s stuck it out.
** Dillon Wade out-athlete’d everybody in the spring. Now, he’s gotten better with his technique and knowing the offense. Gunner Britton has impressed at RT. Avery Jones has become more vocal at center.
** Jaden Muskrat can play four spots for us. Done a good job in camp. Been a whirlwind for Dylan Senda. He’s a tough, physical kid that we can build future off of.
** Connor Lew is making all the calls at center. Becoming more consistent and more confident. Just a 17-year old freshman. Growing everyday. Extremely bright future.
** Had two starting freshmen at tackle at Ole Miss last season. “To me, it’s the best five guys that play. It’s not a spur of the moment decision.”
** Is ready to change clothes at halftime if Hugh Freeze asks (was a funny quote from Freeze at SEC Media Days regarding former OL coach).
** Izavion Miller has had a phenomenal camp. Getting stronger, making progress, being consistent. We’ll see how next 2.5 weeks go with competition at RT
** E.J. Harris is very strong. Pass pro getting better. Had a solid camp. Gonna be a player as he develops.
** RB’s have had a really good camp. Damari Alston is as explosive as any RB he’s been around.
** Tyler Johnson has a chance to be good. Because the room is so strong with leadership, he’s done a good job of learning from teammates.
