Adriene said Brian is making progress over the past week and is communicating more. She said he was smiling, laughing and getting words out and was able to write his name on Thursday.
Battie’s mother said he faces a long road to recovery and the family is looking at options to help with rehabilitation care for a traumatic brain injury.
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Brian Battie was among five people who were shot in an incident around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 18. His brother Tommie Battie was pronounced dead at the scene.
