Police officials said Thursday night they initially were called to the area because Lee threatened a family. Officers searched the area about 7 a.m., but initially did not find him. Officers took another man in custody on an unrelated drug offense.
Officers returned to search for Lee about 90 minutes later.
Piper’s body camera video shows him and another officer spot Lee running from a home. An officer yelled out that Lee tried to jump a fence in the backyard.
Piper ran up to Lee, who turned while reaching for a gun in his waistband. Piper ordered Lee to stop.
“Stop, do not, drop, do not reach for s—t,” Piper said.
Lee pulled out his gun and Piper tried to grab it. Lee fended off the officer, who fired four shots, killing Lee.
