If a penalty by the offense causes a 10 second run off or use of a timeout. Shouldn't a penalty by the defense allow the clock to be reset to the time prior to the play. Sense on many of these situations the clock is the true issue.
In the O vs OSU game, 10 seconds remained. O hand 12 men on the field. OSU ran a play and was stopped. OSU was awarded a 5 yard penalty. However now there were only 6 seconds on the clock. In this scenario O could have just played with 14-15 men on the field. Just allowing OSU to run a play and stopping them for minimum gain, but losing time on the clock. Because the clock was the issue. Next play OSU QB runs the ball into FG position and had a time out to stop the clock. However time ran out. (because of the prior 4 seconds lost with 12 men on the field play. IMO)
I am not a fan of the 10 second run off rule as you may see. There has to be a better solution.
