These new details make it even more clear how fortunate we are that there were brave, decent Republicans in key positions who stopped Trump's effort to destroy our democracy. All of this should be thoroughly investigated and those who conspired with Trump should face stiff criminal penalties. More importantly, Congress needs to consider new safe guards that will prevent any future would-be dictator like Trump from carrying out a coup.
