...has been on ESPNU tonight: the great Nole meltdown in Pasadena. What a beaut!
Nice seeing all that karma come back and bite Jimbo and Jaboo in the butt. That short series of third quarter sideline conferences between Fisher and Winston was priceless. Winston barking at his coach, Fisher's eyes getting wide as he instructed his personal Frankenstein's monster to "calm the f#@k down" in irritation, then another one a couple of moments later where you can watch the expressions on Fisher's face that conveyed alternating frustration with the QB and near disbelief the kid just wasn't "getting it."
Plus, it's always fun to watch Oregon's pace, which impresses me with the amount of organization and discipline it takes to pull it off. The Ducks had the Noles' tongues on the ground early and just never let up at a speed that had the balls snapped 15 seconds after the previous play ended. To me their style is just a reach back to the first decades of the game when it was a lot more like rugby and guys had to be able to run all day to play.
I only had two regrets about that game. The first was that Oregon couldn't have hung another 50 on FSU.
The second was that it possibly showed Auburn might have been victorious there a year previous had they more fully dedicated themselves to running at the most breakneck speed possible...from one end of the game to the other. Granted Auburn's letdowns that night were in various areas other than offense but Oregon made FSU quit and I have to wonder if Auburn could have done the same with a little faster pace.
