Before the season I posted there seemed to be a lot of similarities between 2010-2012 and 2013-2015. Like 2012, the 2015 MSU game could be pivotal for the AU season. In , MSU shut down and embarrassed the AU offense, and the beginning of the end was underway that year.
In 2015, MSU will be trying to beat AU for the 3rd time in four years. MSU narrowly missed on making it the 6th time in 7 years, with last minute losses in 2010, 2011, and 2013.
The close last-minute AU wins in 2010 and 2013 were turning points in AU's two NC runs. This year's MSU game likely will be AU's best chance to win an SEC game and avoid the O-fer SEC record.
AU's other best chances for SEC wins are KY and Ark, who are both road games. AU will likely need a win in all 3 of these SEC games to become bowl eligible.
In addition to being a home game for AU, MSU, unlike KY and Ark, has a minimal run game. Their offense is Dak-dependent for both run and pass. The defense is not strong overall, but the MSU defensive line will be the best AU has faced so far, and Manny Diaz has proven he knows how to slow down an AU offense.
AU has everything to lose this weekend, but an AU win will keep hope alive and postpone implosion.
