I spoke briefly this morning with former four-star dual-threat quarterback Cord Sandberg. Here are some notes regarding his recruitment and interest in Auburn, as well as others.
* Sandberg is still in the process of talking to colleges and figuring out his options. So far, he has offers from Auburn and UCF. Florida and LSU have offered preferred walk-on opportunities. Sandberg spoke to UCLA coach Chip Kelly on Thursday. The Bruins also have extended a preferred walk-on opportunity.
* Sandberg has been in contact with Gus Malzahn and Chip Lindsey. He said having an offer from Auburn is "nice" and it will be a factor, but not the deciding factor. The Phillies will pay for his tuition, so an offer "isn't everything" to him. Sandberg is more concerned with the opportunity to compete for a starting spot.
* Sandberg is aware of Jarrett Stidham and wouldn't expect to compete for the starting spot at Auburn this year. He's also aware that he'll probably need a year to get "back in the groove" after a six-year hiatus from football.
* Sandberg, who is 23 and will turn 24 in January, has not scheduled any official visits, but hopes to have at least three locked in by the time the dead period ends July 25. He'll take his visits as soon as possible and make a decision. He wants to be on a campus and enrolled by the start of fall practices.
