Auburn offensive coordinator Mike Bobo is speaking to us today. We'll get Derek Mason next. Click refresh, will continue to update...
** Been fun working with Coach Harsin and the staff on building the offense. Always a challenge when you go somewhere and start new. The biggest challenge for us right now is not what we want to do, it's trying to figure out who we are as the 2021 Auburn football team. What are our strengths that we need to build on, and what are our weaknesses. We've had three days of practice. Throwing a lot at them and still in process of figuring out who we are.
** Tar'Varish Dawson was a good pickup for Auburn. Recruited him at USC. Has elite speed, game-changing speed. He's made some tough catches in practice. Right now, he's learning what to do. It's our job of coaches to learn what he can do and put him in position to be successful.
** Bo Nix impresses with his work ethic in weight room, running decks, preparing for meetings. He's constantly watching film, asking questions. He's an ultimate competitor. He wants to win at everything, any competition we have. He's being vulnerable and taking coaching and trying to learn. He's hungry, wants to win and loves Auburn.
** Known Demetris Robinson for a long time. Saw him in high school in 10th grade. He's an explosive athlete. He's a lot bigger than when I first saw him. He's close to 190 now, was about 158 then. Has good quickness and elite speed. Speed is something we need on this football team. Excited he's here now. He won't walk on the field and know everything tomorrow. He's a very good special teams player too.
** Credit to the WR for what they've done since spring practice. They worked extremely hard this summer. We're light years ahead of where we finished spring and that's a credit to them. They're not thinking about certain formations or motions, they're playing football. Got some good competition in room with guys coming back from injury, new guys coming in. Makes everyone work hard everyday.
** With Bo it's a matter of doing the little things over and over fundamentally. Had a good day three, finishing on balance with his feet, which help his accuracy. Working on him becoming a more consistent passer. We talk about that everyday and it comes down to fundamentals.
** Having a more downhill run game is something we preach to our guys. I think it's a physical attitude. It's not just the RBs, it's the OL and TE and WRs. Have to run to win a championship and have to run late in a game. It's a mentality, a mindset of how we're going to play at all the positions.
** Malcolm Johnson is another guy I got to know at USC. Has elite speed. Learning to play the WR position. Raw is not a bad word, he has a high ceiling. He's got the size and speed and physical things to play WR. Has a good attitude and works extremely hard. He will continue to improve in this camp and this season.
** A number of guys at tackle: Hamm, Coffey, Troxell, Zierer, Council some at tackle. Everybody looks good in their underwear. They're competing, working hard. As we get closer to first scrimmage Saturday, we'll start letting them loose and start grading them. Colby Smith is also working there. Langlo working some there too. Just getting started with OL.
** Biggest thing coming in was getting everyone on the same page and building trust with players.
