I think most folks on the board have been to their cities designated Tool show so I can post this now but if you have not be warned for setlist spoilers...
Live Music is without a doubt my favorite thing...I love talking about it, I love writing about it, I love listening to it.
What I am learning more and more each week on the Bunker is that music is just as loved and polarizing as Auburn sports so I want to write about my concert exploits and see if it connects with any Bunker folks. If it does...great. If it doesn't...I get to enjoy revisiting recent concerts I have attended.
Location: Charlotte, NC
Venue: Spectrum Center
Bands: Tool and Elder
Thoughts on show
I believe the text I sent to my friend when the encore started up was "Holy F*ckin Sh*t"
This was I believe my 7th time seeing Tool and while some bands over time start to slow down and phone it in...that is not the case with Tool. I have seen them 3 times in the last 18 months and they are without a doubt better now than they were when I first saw them at the previously named Phillips Arena in 2001. Always known for visuals, lasers, long LONG songs and sets heavy with the most recent album whatever it is...they do not disappoint.
I truly love the Fear Inoculum album...I can't say it is my favorite because that feels like an impossible question. Kind of like "Which of your children is your favorite" - i just can't answer it. So if you know Tool and know Tool live shows you knew coming in it was going to be Fear Inoculum heavy but what you did not expect was two songs off of Undertow that were not Sober or Prison Sex. I was fortunate enough to see them play Flood live back in 2008 and it is without a doubt my favorite Tool song. When Justin hit those notes after Danny finished up his solo...I was confused because there was no way I was going to see them play this song live again. But it happened.
Recommend?
If you can handle being in the moment and not filming every 15 second clip of a concert, this is a wonderful experience. They band is amazing live, the sound is spectacular and Maynard screams were as good as ever. I am ready for a more mixed up set list but with Tool you get what you get and you don't throw a fit. Half the set was different than the show I saw in September so I really got everything I could have wanted and more. You don't need any extra curricular mood enhancers but I will say that microdosing is not the worst way to watch a live Tool concert
Setlist
Coming up
Sessanta - Perfect Circle, Primus and Puscifer
Sleep Token
Bush and Jerry Cantrell
Metallica Chicago
Metallica Chicago
Louder than Life Festival
