Warning for Setlist Spoilers, Pictures and it is going to be long
Live Music is without a doubt my favorite thing...I love talking about it, I love writing about it, I love listening to it.
What I am learning more and more each week on the Bunker is that music is just as loved and polarizing as Auburn sports so I want to write about my concert exploits and see if it connects with any Bunker folks. If it does...great. If it doesn't...I get to enjoy revisiting recent concerts I have attended.
Location: St Louis, Missouri
Venue: The Dome at America's Center
Bands: Metallica, Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Nine Kills
Thoughts on show
Ice Nine Kills
First time seeing Ice Nine Kills and I am seeing them again next week with In This Moment. All their songs are based on Horror/Thriller movies. Hip to be Scared is about American Psycho (get it, Huey Lewis and the News), Shower Scene is about Psycho...the gimick goes on and on. Very dramatic show, lots of props, lots of extras and it was fine. Better opener than WVH IMO.
Five Finger Death Punch
I have seen FFDP a bunch over the years and they usually put on a good show. Tonight was not one of those nights. They cut the set short by at least two songs, the mix was bad and Ivan talked even more than normal. I missed Jason Hooks on guitar and I think they are not the same without him. Boring set, boring song choices...not a great set.
Metallica
Loved night two...night one was good but night two was better. Funny story...my buddy from High School actually flew in Sunday to see the show. Second time he has done this after he realized I was in a city seeing Metallica
Recommend?
Go see this tour if you can in 2024...every person there was singing along to every single song. 32 hits and I mean hits, not just songs I know and love. Not a ton of deep cuts but there were some moments where I fan boy'd out which I will hit on below.
Setlist
St Louis was great. I ate great BBQ, saw a Blues game, thought about going up the Arch, got next to the arch, decided I couldn't go up the arch and saw 5 Heavy bands. Will do it again in Chicago next August and I cannot wait.

Setlist
- Whiplash - just an awesome opener. Of course some drunk douche spoiled it for me even though it was my guess as the first song. Love this one keeps getting included in the sets...really great song off Kill Em All
- For Whom the Bell Tolls - the pause...if you have seen them live you know what I am talking about. I love it...LOVE IT.
- Ride the Lightning - very cool deeper cut even though they have been playing it more and more live the last 5 years. One of my favorites of RTL.
- King Nothing - YESSSSS!!!! I love this song, it has always been one of my favorites since Load came out.
- 72 Seasons - this song is much better live than on the album. There is always one that translates better live and this is the one from 72 Seasons. I was surprised how good it was, really enjoyed it.
- If Darkness had a Son - another good effort live from the new album. Not as good as 72 Seasons but a strong effort live.
- Sanitarium - not my favorite but expected with a hits heavy set.
- You Must Burn - meh, not great live
- Call of Ktulu - I had heard it with the symphony during S&M2 but I really loved just the four of them jamming out to this one. Very heavy RTL weekend and zero complaints from me on that front.
- No Leaf Clover - James was into this one from the jump. He started on a stool and when the song fired up he kicked the stool like 10 feet away.
- Wherever I May Roam - Black Album required track here...another great one
- Blackened - This is what I am talking about...pyro and one of my absolute favorites. I love And Justice For All and this is such a great song.
- Moth into Flame - just ok...no production and it is kind of boring at this point.
- Whiskey in the Jar - Cover...we got a cover and beach balls.
- One - crowd went nuts for this one.
- Enter Sandman - I don't love Sandman as the closer any longer but I get it in this setting. Huge crowd, maybe not all die hards. Send them home with the one they all know best.
