Warning for Setlist Spoilers, Pictures and it is going to be long
Live Music is without a doubt my favorite thing...I love talking about it, I love writing about it, I love listening to it.
What I am learning more and more each week on the Bunker is that music is just as loved and polarizing as Auburn sports so I want to write about my concert exploits and see if it connects with any Bunker folks. If it does...great. If it doesn't...I get to enjoy revisiting recent concerts I have attended.
Location: St Louis, Missouri
Venue: The Dome at America's Center
Bands: Metallica, Pantera and Mammoth WVH
Thoughts on show
First off...I was close to the stage for this one.
This close...
Mammoth WVH was fine...sounded a lot like Alter Bridge which is again, fine. I am not one to body shame as a 42YO Dad of 2 so this is not a shot a WVH as much it is disturbing that I pretty much watched Danny DeVito's Penguin play guitar for 30 minutes.
Pantera crushed it...two drum kits set up for Charlie so he played half the show on one half of the stage and the 2nd half at the other side. Zack was amazing, Phil was having a blast and the set was strong. I wished they played something off Reinventing the Steel but they did play Five Minutes Alone which they did not play back in Sept when I saw them and that is one of my absolute favorites. Phil also refused to leave the stage at the end and the Metallica crew kept trying to get him off because they had to take down so much equipment.
I am going to go in depth on Metallica in the setlist but this was so hit heavy, I wondered what they were going to do Sunday night. James sounded incredible...he was in as good of shape as I can remember seeing him. Lots of banter with the fans, really enjoying playing the songs and really into the set. The stage was epic, huge...maybe too big for being on the floor where I was. The Dome and the pillars all over the stage I think impacted the pyro...it only came up from the stage and not the pillars. I need @joshthecat55 to confirm what the production was like at the outside Meadowlands show to see if my theory on side fire is correct. 2 hours, no encore, 16 songs and a couple wow moments.
Recommend?
Go see this tour if you can in 2024...every person there was singing along to every single song. 32 hits and I mean hits, not just songs I know and love. Not a ton of deep cuts but there were some moments where I fan boy'd out which I will hit on below.

Setlist
- Creeping Death - incredible opener, I was expecting something else but they dove right in with this one
- Harvester of Sorrow - this was on my list of wanting to see and it delivered
- Holier than Thou - another from my list and I love this one live. James was really into this one too...asked if we wanted something fast after Harester
- Memory Remains - the sing-a-long song. Crowd favorite
- Lux Aeterna - this one was a bit of a mess, they screwed up the intro and had to try and catch up. Messy effort, didn't sound great
- Too Far Gone - fine live, good to hear something new but not overly memorable
- Fade to Black - amazing effort here. I have seen them play it a lot and it was next level this weekend
- Shadows Follow - Best new track of the weekend live. It is probably my favorite on 72 Seasons and it translates really well live. This was the highlight until...
- Orion - this kind of shocked me a little. I saw it at the 40th anniversary but there was this long lead in and Lars drum kit had shifted to another corner of the stage so it was a very cool moment. Best moment of the night for me.
- Nothing Else Matters - amazing song...this is one I can't get enough of live. Some of the Black album kind of bores me now (see song 11) but this one is legendary.
- Sad But True - "Do you like heavy? Metallica gives you HEAVY!!!"
- Day That Never Comes - sadly the token Death Magnetic song of the weekend. I love this song but I REALLY wanted something else of this album. But one is better than none (looking at you St Anger)
- Hardwired - Very surprised to hear this one and to hear it so late in the set. Still a fun song to see played.
- Fuel - First pyro of the night, got some great video of James and the fire. This one was played right in front of me and that fire is HOT.
- Seek and Destroy - I thought this would be the closer as it typically is the last 20 or so years. Nice to see Kill Em All make an appearance but it was definitely a Ride the Lightning weekend
- Master of Puppets - I wasn't the only one surprised when this one started up. I think most of the crowd who did not check setlists felt it was done but as far as a 1/2 punch to finish the night. WOW.
