So 2024 was a little light for me in terms of shows…we had some weather issues that cancelled 3 shows including my Louder Than Life Weekend. No work trip concerts this year but I did get to see two Metallica shows and some other incredible bands. 2025 is looking WILD right now but I do want to show some respect for the great live music of 2024.
Top 5 shows from the year...
1 – Sleep Token, Asheville
2 – Tool, Charlotte
3 – Metallica M72, Chicago
4 – Alanis Morisette, Charlotte
5 – A Perfect Circle, Raleigh
Awards
Best Song – Flood, Tool
Best Song part 2 – Atlantis, Sleep Token
Best Song part 3 – Until It Sleeps, Metallica (had not seen them play it since my first show in the mid 90s)
Best Song part 4 – Mechanix, Megadeth (the original Four Horsemen)
Best Song part 5 – Judith, A Perfect Circle
Biggest Surprise – AFI…did not know them very well but they put on a heck of show opening up for 30 Seconds to Mars
Singer seen most often – Maynard James Keenan (Tool, Perfect Circle and Puscifer)
Biggest Disappointment – sadly I once again missed out on Metallica playing Leper Messiah. I am on 0-35 chasing this song and while I have two more chances in 2025…I don’t expect to hear it live outside of the No Repeat Weekend Metallica shows and sadly both of my tickets are for single day concerts.
Best Cover – Jerry Cantrell, Alice in Chains Would
Best Dad Moment – Got to take my daughter to see Alanis Morisette this summer. Our third show together. She is getting a great indoctrination into live music with this one plus Fall Out Boy last year and Elton John the year before.
Best food – The Berghoff, Chicago
Best Cocktail – Sovereign Remedies, Asheville (No. 27)
Best Last Minute Purchase – Alanis Morisette…$5 tickets on Stubhub two days before the show
Nostalgia made it enjoyable – Bush, Raleigh. They played the hits…they just don’t sound the same any longer.
Weirdest thing on stage – Jared Leto in a flowy blue cape (true story)
Weirdest thing on stage 2 – Reel Big Fish playing with Ice Nine Kills in Chicago. Wasn’t expecting a side of brass with my Horror Metal Concert.
Best Production – Sleep Token
Best Crowd Atmosphere – Sleep Token
Band I have to see again soon – Sleep Token
First Time, Now a Fan – Puscifer
Show lost to weather – Louder than Life 2024 (SLAYER ☹)
Show lost to weather 2 – I Prevail and Halestorm
Show lost to weather 3 – Korn/Gojira (this one hurt a little bit)
Lined up for 2025...
Deftones, Charlotte
Killswitch Engage – Greensboro
Machinehead – Raleigh
Kendrick Lamar – Charlotte
Metallica – Blacksburg
Pearl Jam – Raleigh
Trivium/Bullet for My Valentine – Charlotte
Metallica – Charlotte
Riot Fest – Chicago
Papa Roach/Rise Against – Charlotte
