All major US airlines (Delta, United, American) are on a complete ground stop. Australia is nearly crippled. The UK had outages of Bank of England, London Stock Exchange, Sky News, and the UK healthcare system.
Apparently a recent update to CrowdStrike XDR (modern antivirus/anti-malware software) caused Windows machines to blue screen. Microsoft runs Azure on Windows, so Azure was also affected and companies relying on Azure (or services/software that rely on Azure) are all down. It really demonstrates who Microsoft targets for customers, and damn if they didn’t screw this one… CrowdStrike is a tech darling stock and Microsoft has been under fire a LOT lately with their security issues. This will be interesting to see in the stock market (once they’re back online 🤦♂️).
