i used to thrive on AU sports. Would read every article in the Mobile Press Register, look forward to seeing the new AP poll each week (if AU won), and listened to every tiger talk each week. That familiar Auburn Network jingle that they play today is a reminder of my youthful, innocent coming of age days.

My heroes were Bo Jackson, Brent Fullwood, Stacey Danley, James Joseph, Stan White later and of course the great throw Pat Nix came off the bench to throw (Jim Fyffe’s call of that play will be one i remember in eternity also).

Fast forward to all the other great memories. Thumping Georgia in Athens in 1997 after an embarrassing home loss a few weeks earlier to Miss St. Kick Six, beating the dog crap out of Georgia and then #1 bama the very next week. The sun sure has shown on AU football, at least enough to keep us coming back with warm hearts.

Last year, the football was tough to watch, but we came to every game that was held in Auburn. And although it was difficult to watch, the people who loved Auburn still showed up with warm hearts.

This is what Auburn is. I along with probably many others have no love for the direction of college sports. Maybe i am now officially old (do the math if i was a tyke with Bo was toting the rock on the plains). Despite everything that is wrong with college sports today, I still look forward to the new season, and once again being counted as one of the many AU faithful to witness yet another season. And most of all, showing up again with a warm heart.
