ive been tasked by the @Powerman26 department to look at coverage on #19
also what is "a bracket"?
TLDR:
this is "bracketed coverage"
1 defender underneath and 1 above so it makes it harder for qb to fit into the window there (on this one wooden went too deep and shoulda came in more)
gonna look at tha BOWERS TARGETS here and look at 1.) WAS HE BRACKETED 2.) WAS HE SUPPOSED TO BE BRACKETED (seems like the bunk is split on it so i wanna see what happened)
#19 had 14 targets this game and 8 catches (thats pretty good! problem was he exploded in the second half + the YAC was too damn high)
1ST QUARTER
drive 1- 1 target 1 catch 2 yards
#1
(this is a photo album, click arrows to scroll through)
NOT BRACKETED
little flip out to bowers in the flat. riley (#13) responsibility to cover him. good tackle in space. GJ
2ND QUARTER
drive2- 3 targets, 1 catch, 7 yards
#2
NOT BRACKETED
again a flip out to bowers in the flat. late recognition by mcleod (#35) and nixon (#30) here to get the stop but bowers was doubled
#3
NOT BRACKETED, should be? not sure on this one. puckett (#10) calls off kayin 3 (3) to cover the other receiver and shifts riley to the rb hotroute. pucket makes a great play, simpson coming over to cover the backside but hes a little late. ball still hits bowers hands
#4
IS BRACKETED. steiner (#32) is supposed to be on bowers here but hurry up + miscommunication makes him late. simpson makes a great play and forces an incompletion. big time stop here
drive 3- 1 target 0 catches
#5
IS BRACKETED #9 asante is supposed to be underneath with pritchett (#1) over the top. asante slips and loses him. lucky this ball is dropped + bad throw behind
5 targets, 2 catches 7 yards total 1st half
thats the first half, if people are interested in second half ill look at it
overall, first half id say bowers "was bracketed" because he had a guy underneath and over the top on most plays down the field. successful plays were out of the back in the flat where no one expects to be "bracketed". still probably didnt do a great job convering him because of mistakes by asante/steiner/riley in coverage. linebackas gotta get betta
the other thing is the problems caused by us putting 2 guys on bowers (the deep shot that shouldve connected first half, bowers was bracketed by mcallister and pritchett. a lotta the corner route long completions 2nd half was cause bowers was bracketed, etc)
heres the replay if anyone wants to check. targets are at
3:34, 20:57, 31:50, 32:15, 41:00
remember all posts are revised and edited by @Boisgreat and @AUgncEngineer with @Ruxpin 's supervision. all questions should be directed towards them
