Little backstory first. As a few of you folks know, my little brother IRL and his wife found out she had cancer the week that they were all flying in from Texas for Little Shorts graduation from Auburn back in May. Needless to say, that trip was canceled to immediately focus on further diagnosis and treatment plans.
Despite MD Anderson's best efforts, sadly, his wife, my sister in law, and Mother to my 11 year old niece, succumbed to this monster of a disease. She was given a short timeline of which to plan out her last days and make arrangements, and assurances that her daughter and husband were going to be okay after she was gone.
Mrs Shorts and I made the trip out in July to spend time with her and say our last goodbyes. She remained surprisingly energetic and able to take care of herself, for the most part, until the end.
She made my brother, Mrs Shorts, and I promise to take her daughter to her first Auburn game. Of course we all said yes. Well, she was the kind of person that when she said she would do something she did it. And, when you told her you would do something, she held you to it. So, she chose an Auburn game for us that she was confident would occur after she had passed away, She pulled up the schedule and said Ole Miss. she also didnt want the airline tickets that she cancelled in May to expire. So, she booked the flights for my Brother, Mom and their 11 year old daughter right there on the spot.
Fast forward to today. We have been planning little things for this weekend to make this trip special for my Niece. @Bob Mapplethorpe was one of the few people that knew about our family situation. Today, Bob faxes me some photos of Coach Hugh and many players holding signs supporting my niece. I was also told, that our own @BrianStultz was the man that got access to our team and took the photos!
Guys, you need to know, these two people are salt of the earth. To go out of their way for a kid they've never met, without being asked for a thing, and to do this act of kindness with no expectation of recognition, speaks volumes to the character of @BrianStultz and @Bob Mapplethorpe . You guys are incredible human beings, and will forever have a place in the hearts of the Shorts family!
There's many photos, but yall get the point. Anyway, when i told yall that AU beating ole piss was a 🔒, i meant it.
