Kirby’s 1st year as HC at UGA;
1. Almost (and should have) lost to Nicholas State at home 26-24. Also his 2nd game of the season.
2. Barley beats a horrible Mizzou (4-8) team 28-27. Same Mizzou team that lost to power house Middle Tennessee State 45-51 that year.
3. Blown out by a bad Ole Miss (5-7) team 14-45
4. Loses to a 6-7 Vandy team @ HOME.
5. Gets out coached and beat by Paul Johnson and Ga Tech @ HOME
6. Ranked 102nd out of 128 on offense that year.
*Keep in mind he followed a Georgia team that went 10-3 the year before and finished the year ranked in top 10
*Also inherits a roster with 10x the talent we currently have;
Offense:
-Jacob Eason: #1 rated QB in the country and a future 4th round draft pick
-Nick Chubb: #2 rated RB in country and a future 2nd round draft pick
-Sony Mitchell #3 rated RB in country and a future 1st round draft pick
-Elijah Holyfield #2 rated RB in country
-Terry Godwin #1 rated Ath in country and future 3rd round pick
-Isaiah McKenzie Top 100 recruit and a 5th round draft pick
-Isaac Nauta #1 rated TE in the country
Defense:
-Julian Rochester #15 rated DT in country
-Lorenzo Carter #2 rated DE in the country 3rd round draft pick
-Roquan Smith #2 rated OLB in country 2nd round draft pick
We‘re 2-0, defense looks much improved, Hugh did a HELL of a job with roster management in the short amount of time he had, and all the negative publicity with Harsin and the current program yet he’s still heading towards a top 10 recruiting class.
It was a west coast game (Auburn had never won a game in California), late kickoff, first game on the road, and we fought through adversity and came out with a win. If Harsin or Gus was on that sideline we no doubt leave with an L.
Let’s give brother Hugh a little time to get this thing going.
8-4 and a top 10 recruiting class would be a massive win this year giving what he has to work with at the moment.
