SEC Player of the Week – Auburn forward/center Walker Kessler, a 7-foot-1, 255-pound sophomore from Newnan, Ga., recorded the second triple-double in program history with a game-high tying 16 points, 10 rebounds a career-high 11 blocks in 28 minutes of action in a win over No. 16 LSU. He shot 75 percent from the field and showed his diverse range with a made 3-pointer in the second half. According to STATS, Kessler is also the only NCAA Division I player in the last 25 years to have a triple-double against a 10-0 or better team.
SEC co-Freshmen of the Week – Auburn forward Jabari Smith and Kentucky guard TyTy Washington Jr. were named co-Freshmen of the Week. Smith, a 6-foot-10, 220-pound freshman from Fayetteville, Ga., extended his team-best, double-digit scoring streak to 10-straight games in a win over No. 16 LSU. Smith registered a game-high tying 16 points, while shooting 41.7 percent from the floor with two 3-pointers in his SEC debut. Washington Jr., a 6-foot-3, 197-pound freshman from Phoenix, Ariz., averaged 14.5 points, 5.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds in dominating victories over Missouri and High Point. Washington scored 14 points and grabbed six boards in the SEC opener against Missouri, making 2 of 4 3-pointers. He followed that performance with 15 points and a career-high nine assists in just 25 minutes against High Point.
