Auburn DC Jeff Schmedding is speaking to the media following Friday afternoon's scrimmage at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Click refresh, will continue to update...
** Been a good fall camp so far. Looking forward to next two weeks of prep.
** Wanted a clean operation in scrimmage today and operate well in tempo situations.
** Jayson Jones self evaluates and really cares about what he's doing. Has done a good job for us inside and the best is yet to come. Each day you see him correcting things.
** Eugene Asante brings good energy, fits with that LB unit. Adds competition to room.
** Donovan Kaufman is a film junkie. Can play multiple positions. You can hear him out there getting everyone lined up.
** Zac Etheridge doing a good job with safeties. Good competition and guys are helping each other out. Bridges has done a great job for us (answering question).
** Austin Ausberry had a nice pick in scrimmage. Cayden Bridges improved in this scrimmage. Cam Riley had a sack. Eku Leota was giving the offense problems.
** Caused a ton of fumbles last year, got to get more of them. Been working on that.
** Wesley Steiner has done a nice job not taking any steps back. He's taking step by step each day. He's more confident in what we're doing.
** The DL starters have taken big strides in the last few days. Some backups that have impressed and will be a part of the rotation: Morris Joseph, Jeffrey M'Ba and Marcus Bragg.
** Steiner and Riley gained good experience with all the first-team reps in the spring when Owen Pappoe was out. They're all very close and the group fits well together, balance their different skillsets well. Will use different combinations for different needs.
** Not many players at this level know how to prepare like Owen Pappoe does.
** Joseph can play Edge. Uses hands well and a good athlete. We can be versatile with him.
** Craig McDonald has been taken strides over the last week Picking up our defense and scheme.
** Robert Woodyard is progressing at LB. He loves playing in the box. There's a learning curve with young guys and he's starting to trend in the right direction. Has a smile on his face.
** The backup corners are coming along: DJ James and Keionte Scott. The whole DB room understands that they're competing. Good to see Ausberry make a big play today.
