mine. First of all, I had no real expectations at all for this team this season and mostly just hopes. My hope was that Freeze would come in and realize the importance of recruiting right off the bat and he and his staff would hit the road like men on fire recruiting. That hope was realized. Secondly, I hoped that we could carry over the optimism and excitement that Caddy had awakened in this team and Freeze appears to have done that as well as united this team which is no easy task considering the number of transfers that he brought in. Thirdly, I hoped that he would try his best to go out and find some linemen and another QB to compete with Ashford and although he may have found linemen, some are not SEC quality and he may have missed the boat on finding the right QB. I do believe that he tried his best and perhaps Thorne will prove some wrong still as the season goes on.
Having said all that, This team is a hodge podge of meshed talent and kids who have never played together before and many have no experience playing in the SEC which is a different world than they were accustomed to. The defense is making strides each week but without much quality depth, injuries can send us in a downward spiral in a heartbeat. Auburn still lacks top-quality linemen and a very good Quarterback as well as talented wide receivers who can run good routes and that have speed. We also need depth at virtually every position and the reality is that we are not going to be very good until that is achieved.
Given all these factors, I have finally decided to make a prediction for this season. I believe that if the defense can remain relatively healthy, we have a chance for at least six wins and the possibility of a seventh win if Thorne can improve significantly. I think Freeze knows where he is and he's honest about it. I believe that he will get a full four years to turn this thing around just as he should get because it's not fair to expect a giant turnaround in less time than that where a coach can enjoy a full four years' worth of recruiting classes to recruit and develop. I don't see this team beating, UGA, LSU, Bammer or maybe not even Ole Miss but I hope I am wrong and even if I am right, I will continue to support Freeze and this staff into his fourth year because that's fair and the right thing to do. We've wasted enough money on the wrong coaches so I think it's the right time to be patient and supportive. Criticism is welcome. WDE!
