Sure, we could end up with some unheralded SEC QB blowing up this season like Burrow did in '19, Cam in '10.

What we got as proven QBs, at least on paper:

* Jaden Daniels, LSU. Very talented. Can he elevate play even higher in '23? Or does he have a year two slump?
* Spencer Rattler, USCe. Very capable, experienced. Not sure of supporting cast to really have a monster year.
* Will Rogers, Miss. State. He's got real talent, but supporting cast again, and the legend Mike Leach not pulling the strings. From Spring ball, they're looking to run a lot of tempo.
* ?? Payton Thorne. Can / should he be added as a known commodity at QB? You be the judge. Maybe not since it was not against the SEC savage defenses.

Within minutes of the start of Mississippi State football’s first spring practice on Tuesday, quarterback Will Rogers was sprinting to the line of scrimmage, flashing hand signals to his receivers and shouting at his offensive line to get set. In the first look at a fresh season under head coach Zach Arnett and offensive coordinator Kevin Barbay, there was little time wasted. The new regime wants to move with pace and purpose. “We started practice really, really fast with some up-tempo plays – good on go,” Rogers said. “It was good to be out flying around with the guys and learning a new scheme.”

So with so many questions at the QB spot, including UGA and bammer, this season may portend more upset surprises than normal. And with a few breaks, it may open a door for AU to overachieve the presume 7-win "ceiling" since Payton Thorne is among the most experienced, "known" QB commodities in D-I Power 5 ball.
