WSJ story quoting Steely Dan's Fagen and Becker about how they wrote the music and lyrics to the song "Deacon Blues". I've heard a lot of stories over the years about what the reference to the Evil Empire in the song meant - none of which seem to be true.
I remember being chastised in Mag Dorm for playing this song upon my arrival as a naive frosh from NOLA. I was permanently scarred - I still like the song, but not nearly as much.
