Was just looking over the game prep page on KP for tonight's game. This is going to be an interesting matchup with our #7 ranked defense facing their #2 ranked offense. A few points that jumped out:
- Our D is ranked #3 nationally in effective FG% while their O is ranked #3. The only point where we have a big advantage statistically is we are elite at blocking shots ranking #11 while they are #290 on offense at having their shots blocked. Hopefully that bodes well for Broome and the guys to have a block party tonight.
- One area where we haven't been great is free throw attempt per field goal attempts allowed on D as we rate #280 while they are 48th on O. They are also 11th in the country in FT% so this is an area where they could hurt us, especially if they get the usual favorable whistle in Tuscaloosa.
Where we have a big advantage across the board is on offense where our O ranks #8 and their D ranks #66 nationally.
- We are top 50 nationally in most cats, while they rank outside the top 100 in every individual defensive cat.
- Biggest disparity is our turnover % ranking #35 while they are #246 in forcing turnovers. That bodes well for our guards tonight being able to continue their run of very positive assist to turnover ratio.
- We are also strong in FTA/FGA ranking #54 while they are fouling at a high rate and rank #241 here.
Anything can obviously happen, particularly on the road, so our statistical advantages on paper don't mean a ton if we don't play within our consistently good range we have so far this year. Looking forward to seeing how our guys handle this test.
