Had the Dem won last night in Virginia, today Republicans would be screaming about how the election was stolen. We know that because Republicans followed Trump's lead by preemptively declaring the election was being stolen just as he did in 2016 and 2020. They would also be promoting all manner of nutty conspiracy theories about how global communists had conspired to steal the election and adding Virginia to their never ending list of audits that must be conducted until they get the result they wanted. Surely today Dems in Virginia must be screaming about fraud and demanding their candidate never concede and instead summon a violent mob to prevent the peaceful transfer of power. Oh wait, instead they are taking the loss just as has always been the custom in our country prior to Trump's crusade to destroy our democracy.
The new paradigm is clear. Republicans can win a blue state without Dems creating all manner of conspiracy theories to undermine our democratic institutions. Meanwhile, according to the leader of the Republican party and all of his followers, if a Dem wins a red or purple state, it can only be the result of massive fraud by minorities and their global communist allies. The contrast couldn't be more stark in our political landscape today. Dems need to do a much better job of making this choice clear to voters over the next year. One party stands behind our democracy while the other is hellbent on destroying it.
