Pat Dye's last SEC co championship Team was 1989 season.
Since that season, we have had 28 football seasons.
In the 20 years Gus wasn't on the Auburn sidelines, Auburn won one SEC championship 2004. We played in a grand total of 3 SEC champ games. 2 of those years were 6-2 SEC records teams who had no chance to advance to NC game even if we won the SEC title. The 2004 SEC champions should have advanced to NC Game.
In the 8 years Gus has spent at Auburn, we have played in 3 SEC title games, Winning twice and going on to the NC game both years winning the NC once. Last year's loss was as the 2 ranked team in the country one week after beating undefeated #1 Alabama and three weeks after beating undefeated #1 ranked Georgia.
So in his 8 years at Auburn we have played in the SEC champ game 3 times with a chance to advance to the NC game or playoff with a win - as compared to one such opportunity in the previous 20 years.
All his blunders aside - we have been more consistently relevant on a national scale in his 8 years at Auburn (5 as HC) than in the last 20 Non Gus years 1990 to 2008 plus 2012.
