In summary, my reaction about Bo being hot garbage was colored by some really bad early throws and the nightmare of the last drive where his panic all but cost us the game. Play calling was garbage most of the night, OL actually wasn't bad at all, but the best I can say about the game for Bo was that he was up and down, had some good moments and some really terrible moments. Right now, I would describe Bo as a competitor and a gamer but I expect a hell of a lot more out of a 5-star recruit. And don't tell me about coaching because just like with last year, amongst the questionable play calls there are always a half dozen or more throws and decisions every game that he screws up all on his own. He has to be better. Overall, before the disastrous last drive, I would grade him a B for this game but his first and last play of the last drive are straight up F's both of which could have cost us the game.
1st possession - no score - B+
1st throw - inaccurate but catchable to Schwartz for 8 yards, quick throw, wet ball, first pass, B
2nd throw - strike, another quick pass to Schwartz for 1st down, A
3rd throw - swing pass to Bigsby short gain, good throw but not much zip, B+
4th drop back - Brahms guy runs straight into backfield, no chance, sack
2nd possession - no score - F
1st throw - terrible high throw to Shwartz on swing, almost backwards pass fumble, F
2nd throw - terrible screen to Tank, uncatchable, F
3rd possession - up 7-0 - N/A (JJ Pegues drive)
1st drop back - OL blocks nobody, Bo avoids sack, draw PI call, offsetting penalties, ugly play but Bo saved it from being a disaster
4th possession - up 10-0 - runner B+, passer N/A
1st run - loss of 2, C
2nd run - 15 yard TD, A
5th possession - up 17-6 - runner A+, passer B-
1st run - 15 yards, nice bounce outside to get extra yards, A+
(DJ run on 2nd and 10 turned an 8+ yard run into a 5 yard run, why is he on the field?)
1st throw - roll out throw to crossing Seth, catchable, dropped by Seth, no zip and like to see it hit him in the chest not his hip, B-
6th possession - up 17-12, last possession before half 2:13 to go - passer B-
(Tank's 1st run was ridiculous to set us up for points)
1st throw - clean pocket, catchable but not a good throw, Seth has to run backwards and catch it at his knees, better throw and he runs for more yards after catch, C
2nd throw - quick fade to Seth, good throw, catchable and probably should have been PI, Seth can't hang on, B+ (Seth never looked right yesterday)
2nd dropback - designed rollout RPO maybe? Weird call into short side, looked like he could have thrown back shoulder to Seth but they weren't on the same page, kept if for a short run
(Playcalling from 1st and goal to FG was shit)
2nd half - 7th possession - up 20-12 - runner A - passer C - OL F
1st throw - quick out to Schwartz, bad throw, incomplete, high and lead him too much, D
2nd throw - clean pocket, good dig route to Seth for 1st down, perfect throw, A
3rd throw - quick easy throw out to Seth, terrible, uncatchable low and behind him, F
4th drop back - flushed out of pocket through the middle, they lost contain and good decision to break pocket and long run for 1st down, A+
1st run - short gain, tackled 1v1 on keeper, B
4th throw - catchable but not great dump off to Schwartz, B-
6th drop back - sack, Jackson got abused, almost escaped and almost dumped it off, did all he could do
7th drop back - sack, thought about dumping it to Tank, held on, can't fault the decision, OL failure killed the drive
8th possession - up 20-18 - Best drive of the game for Bo, Schwartz drive, bailed him out with a couple of tough catches but good rhythm, A-
1st throw - quick out to Schwartz, made a tough catch on a bad throw that almost took him out of bounds, definitely cost him some yards on the run, C
2nd throw - great pocket, great throw to Schwartz for long completion, kind of throw that gives me hope, A+
3rd throw - swing to Bigsby, I don't think he throws these really well, little soft, slightly behind, complete but short gain, B-
4th throw - hard to know what to say about this one, thought he bailed out of the pocket straight into pressure from the right, looked to me like he could have stepped up into a clean pocket found a WR, but he bails and makes I guess a great improvised throw to Schwartz, do I bash him for bailing or praise him for a tough throw? Turns out to be a 1st down throw, A+ throw, C- decision making?
5th throw - again, clean pocket all day to throw and he hangs in and makes a solid throw to Schwartz for a short gain, thrilled to see him sit in that pocket, A+
(Holding on Brahms on great run by Tank)
6th throw - swing to Tank, thought it was one of his better short throws, lead him well, maximized gain, helping him make first guy miss, A
7th throw - Inside screen to Schwartz, low throw, Schwartz makes a nice catch and does the rest, TD, B-
9th possession - up 27-21 - not on Bo, A
1st throw - quick throw to Seth, again no help from Seth, expect him to come to that throw and beat the guy instead he just stands there and drops it, A
2nd throw - screen to DJ, no block from Schwartz, no broken tackles from DJ throw was fine, call was shit, A
10th possession - down 28-27 - missed FG, B+
1st throw - crossing route to Seth, clean pocket and stepped up!!, gave Seth time to cross open, good throw, long gain, A
2nd throw - improvised pass to Schwartz, good adjustment by them both, nice touch throw on the move, 1st down, A
3rd throw - looked like a broken play, wanted to go left but not open, bailed right and basically threw it away, B-
4th throw - stepped up again into the pocket but throws off balance, needs to step up and keep his feet under him when he makes these throws, put it up for Seth but DB just tipped it away, B-
11 possession - down 28-27 - made FG, all Tank, Bo was a nightmare - F
1st throw - stepped up to avoid rush, throwing off balance again, never saw LB and thankfully it was behind Seth or it would have been catchable by Pool, D
2nd throw - dump off to Tank, good decision, easy throw, B
3rd throw - panic - if the refs don't bail him out we lose the game because that's a fumble recovered by Arkansas, no excuse, among the dumbest plays I've ever seen by a D1 college QB, F-----
Final GPA 2.2, so C+ roughly
One other thought, I don't know OL grades but Brahms gets blown up more than any OL I can remember, he's in the backfield chasing after a DL who beat him like a dog a lot.
