1st let me say I'm a firm believer in the free market. I also feel they, like any student should be able to change schools at will.

Now I could see NIL making contract specific demands (ie non competes, contract completions etc) but let's focus strictly on the University for now.

My next point would be most College football players playing for a top 20-30 program get mostly useless degrees. $1 Sociology Degree. Probably all Major CFB but I keep the size smaller for the argument.

Those worthless degrees are tied to all the requirements of playing football for said college. Meaning all the practices, training etc to make the University's cash cow money.

Very few of the kids would have the time needed to pursue say an Engineering degree.

I mean per the bunker (years ago) our players were too busy to get high :)

A sport that generates millions of revenue for the University, what does the University give those revenue generators? A worthless degree? Then again, how many of those athletes would pass a single class as a common student?

I think at some point your going to have to make athletes employees. We do that and you have a lot more control as either the NCAA or the SEC would be the governing body/employer.

Now those are my current thoughts. I am not set in my beliefs and am open enough that my thoughts could be persuaded. Why? I've given about 10 minutes of thought and wouldn't be surprised if there are some negatives to the kids I haven't thought about.

I feel like this relationship between the University and the income generating student athletes is very one sided.

If we want to bite down on the student athlete bit, then we need to roll back that athlete part. They need less time in the program, and more time in Class room. I think GA Tech does something like that....
