I'm confused as the what the left's goal is here...

Maybe some of our resident leftist here can educate me. So the left wants the government to put more controls in place for firearms. The left understands that these measures will never be followed by criminals, only law abiding citizens. Some are even pushing for full firearm confiscation. The left is simultaneously pushing for a flee your home policy, as opposed to the stand your own ground policy currently in place in most states. The left is also pushing for the defunding of police. The left is also pushing for shorter term prison sentences, particularly for minors that committed a felony. What is the end goal here? What do you hope achieve with these policies?
