The SEC coaches' teleconference is back. Here's a summary of what Hugh Freeze had to say this afternoon...
** Excited that the season is finally here. Never sure where we are until we play. Will be tested and we'll see how we respond and how the young players handle it.
** Tyler Johnson is really talented. Has tremendous length. Has room to get stronger, just a redshirt freshman. Very athletic and one of our better pass protectors. Still has room to grow as a run blocker.
** Roster is deeper than a year ago and looks more like an SEC roster. Getting closer. Still two recruiting classes away from having a roster that is on the same level as the ones in or league that are competing for national championships. Excited about recruiting and the future at Auburn.
** Freeze was late to SEC teleconference because he was flying back from Florida after visiting with Brian Battie and his family.
** Expects freshmen WR's to be ready. Had three missed assignments yesterday. "That's not terrible but would like it to be zero." Freshman WR's are a key part of the game plan.
** Scout teams were really good this week. A lot of credit goes to Walker White and the way he leads. He's a natural and enthusiastic about it.
** The improved play at outside WR is going to help TE Rivaldo Fairweather. Will make matching up against him more difficult. He looks stronger and bigger.
** Keionte Scott had a tough camp with nagging hamstring. Want to make sure it doesn't nag him all year so have to make sure he's totally healthy. Need him to play a lot of snaps at corner.
** Freeze has Facetimed with Battie or his mom every week. Got to spend entire morning with him today. Good to see him. He's in a battle with his recovery and rehab. Walking is still a challenge. Has a great spirit and wants to get to Auburn for a game this fall.
** Alex McPherson is progressing. Docs feel good about weight gain. Not ready for this game. Towns McGough will handle kicking duties against Alabama A&M.
*****THAT'S ALL*****
