Eliminate scholarships. The football team comes from the student body just like it is in high school. The players will be smaller and slower but they will all be smaller and slower so the only difference in what you are watching now and what you would watch in the future is that the plays will last a second or so longer.

People won't watch it you say? They won't watch it because the athleticism that they see now is less than what they saw with the hired guns? Look at the size and speed of the players at the big high schools now. They are bigger and faster on average than what you saw in the SEC in the mid 70's and people watched the hell out of that. The attachment to the university and the uniform representing it mean something to people and they want their team to beat the team that their frienemy from high school is going to.

The uniform! let's say that a minor league NFL was established to take all of the 3, 4, and 5 star recruits. All of the remaining players are either going to go to college or go to work. The one's that are going to college are spending their own money to go to school so they are going to be serious students. This would be the end of the "football" majors that are a joke. This would help re-establish the integrity of the universities that have diminished the value of their diplomas by having these unworthy classes and majors. What would you watch if given the choice, the Mississippi Red Wolves starring Walker White vs the Georgia Bullfrogs starring KJ Bolden or the Alabama/Tennessee game featuring players drawn from the student body? I would dare to say that the talent on the USFL teams now is greater than that on college teams. I would guess that the best USFL team would beat Georgia or Alabama but which teams draw larger TV audiences and which stadiums are fuller? It's the uniform!

You would eliminate the mercenaries. The people that play on your team are actual students of your school, not hired guns who might only be there for the football.

This would be the end of recruiting and all the costs associated with that because the team is made up of people that have already chosen their school.

If you eliminate the skills required of a coach to evaluate talent, recruit, hobnob with boosters, etc. and only require the skill to motivate the players and scheme, the pool of "good" coaches would expand immensely. More supply, less demand and less cost. There would be no more $10 million/year contracts and the school administrators could get control back from the coaches and stop giving out guaranteed contracts.

All of the boosters that have paid all of this money out over the years have committed the crime of tax evasion. I bet that Bobby Lowder and Earlon McWhorter haven't had a good nights sleep since they became involved in football recruiting because of the guilt that their souls bear from committing that crime. The most neglected demographic in the mental health realm is that of old, rich, white boosters. They are left to deal with the trauma of their crimes and their guilt on their own. We need to start a hashtag movement to bring awareness.
