I watched the game.....
LB7

last night. I had recorded it but just couldn't watch that crap. I'm glad I did . I'm not being a sunshine pumper, I'm going to tell you what I saw after watching every play 5-8 times and watching each individual position that was relevant in that play (the WR is not relevant on the counter to the opposite side).

The first series offensively , we were clicking. Two quick passes to start the game for 7 and. 8 yards. Then a counter for 7 and zone read for 5. We methodically moved down to around their 30, gaining 5-8 yards every play. After a seven yard run, we ran the counter on 2nd and 3. It is set up beautifully. Coleman combos from tackle to LB. Kozan turns the tackle. The H back leads around and seals the OLB and the WR runs the DB out. It's perfect for a huge gain. Except Danzey, the backside guard, pulls and totally whiffs on the DE who is coming hard off the edge. If Danzey touches the guy, it is 15 yards before Barber is touched. Loss of 3.

The next play, the wheel route to Peyton, Danzey is late pulling to kick out the DE, and Jeremy makes a bad pass, short arms it incomplete. Both plays are big gainers if Danzey gets there.

On the second series, when we ran the counter , Braden smith played guard and Danzey moved to tackle. They ran a boundary corner blitz into our zone read twice on this series and we still gained 4 yards on both plays. Again, we methodically marched down the field into the red zone, only to be stalled on 2 straight in-completions to Duke. FG

I'm not going through the entire game , but here is a summary of all the series in the first 3 quarters. WE FAILED TO EXECUTE SMALL THINGS THAT KILLED SUCCESSFUL DRIVES.

I know JR felt Coleman struggled, but he was very solid in the run game . Other than the no call holding against Lamichael Fanning, I don't recall another problem pass blocking.

Kozan was outstanding and much more physical this game. Golson was very solid, although he missed a run blitz that stalled a drive in the 3rd quarter .

Braden Smith was ok, considering he was playing tackle and 80% of all the running plays went to the left side.

Danzey had 7-8 just awful plays. He got beat pass blocking several times. He ducked his head both times. One was a critical miss in the fourth quarter.

Sure we can get more push, but the holes were there . Which leads me to Barber. I love the kid. He ran hard, but after Danzey whiffed on the counter, he lost his trust. The cut back over left tackle was there in the first half 6-7 times for big gainers, but he banged it off guard for 3 yards. He just did not trust it or see it. That's the play Tre Mason stayed patient and then burst through the hole.

In the last 3 drives, Peyton got it going and hit that seam. U saw the results.

DUKE: good grief. What's this guys problem. He missed key blocks on the quick WR screens. He doesn't give effort. He ran the wrong route or misjudged the ball several times. He had 2 drops. Honestly, I wish he'd never come back.

Jeremy: who knows? Our passing schemes are sad to begin with, and he can look so good for several series. Then, a coma. His footwork can be great and then terrible.

Other than about 5 plays
